You know that Awful
Sinking Feeling Of Sheer Terror you get when you rummage through your
bag and realise you’ve lost something important? Yeah so I may or may not have
kind of nearly lost my new camera today, barely one week after I got it. And
guess where the lovely staff at Tazio
found it? On the floor near our table; a new low methinks. So yeah, first and
foremost, a shout-out to the staff at Tazio for finding my camera, and looking
after it for me. You’re all my new favourite people in the world.
Anyway, after finishing two mid-semester exams (one pretty
good and one not so good), it was high time for some R&R in the form of
dinner and movie. As sort-of compensation for enduring the pho earlier in the
week, I decided to treat Chris to pizza. Gourmet pizza of course.
Tazio is a dark and sexy Italian restaurant on Flinders Lane,
though when we arrived mid-afternoon there were more pints than pizzas clutched
by the suits, which made up most of the patronage. The menu presents an
appealing selection of Italian staples, but the pizzas are the real stars here.
Della Mare ($15.5, 10 inch) |
Craving seafood, I ordered the Della Mare ($15.5, 10 inch), a prawn pizza flavoured with
chilli and fresh spinach, on a zesty mozzarella and tomato garlic base. The
toppings may look sparse, but in every bite there was a hint of the briny
ocean, and the sunshine warming a thriving garden. Any more topping and the
pizza would have lost its mouth-watering lightness, and instead became clumsy and
overdone. In a nutshell, this was absolute scrumptious. Nicely done guys.
Ernesta ($15.5, 10 inch) |
Chris ordered the Ernesta
($15.5, 10 inch), a simple affair of mozzarella, ham and mushrooms. It was
described by him to be ‘very pizza-y’. The velvety lusciousness of the ham and
the earthy pungency of the mushrooms is a flavour combination that has stood
the test of time, and here, Tazio has taken it and made it shine.
Tazio is a great place to bring a date, have a night out with
friends, or just to get a killer pizza without the killer bill. The combination
of excellent grub and a substantial drinks list is a winning formula for sure.
Rating:
15/20 – gourmet pizzas, you’re doing it right.
